How to Register as a Vendor in Ohio

What it's for

OhioBuys is the State of Ohio's eProcurement system, run by the Department of Administrative Services. A company that doesn't do business with the state yet registers as a Bidder, which lets it view and respond to solicitations. A Supplier is a company already doing business with the state. If you're already a state supplier, Ohio publishes separate instructions for existing suppliers who want to register as a bidder.

Have this ready

• An email address for an OH|ID account (Ohio's state login), plus a mobile number if you want account recovery by text
• Tax ID number (TIN/EIN)
• Legal business name exactly as shown on your tax returns
• Ohio Secretary of State charter/entity number
• Full business address, including county
• The commodities your business provides (you pick them from OhioBuys's list)
• Optional: certifications such as EDGE, MBE, WBE or veteran-owned

Steps

1. Go to ohiobuys.ohio.gov and choose the OhioBuys login.
2. If you don't have an OH|ID, create one. Verify your email with the PIN sent to you, enter your name and date of birth, create a username and password, set up recovery options and accept the terms.
3. Once signed in, fill out the Bidder Registration Request form: tax ID, legal name, Secretary of State number, address and commodities.
4. Add any certifications that apply.
5. Submit the request and wait for an email. The guide says you'll be notified "when the State of Ohio has reviewed and taken action on your request."

After you register

• Once you're approved, log in to OhioBuys to view solicitation details and submit responses.
• Keep your commodity selections and contacts current so you get matching opportunities.
• You can sign up for the "OhioBuys Supplier Updates" email bulletins that DAS offers.
• Payment setup (becoming an active supplier in the state's financial system) happens separately when you win work. Follow the buying agency's instructions at that point.

Watch out for

• Register early. DAS recommends registering before a bid's due date, because approval is a manual review and no timeline is published.
• Construction: State capital and school construction is posted by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (ofcc.ohio.gov). ODOT highway work goes through ODOT's contract sales and requires ODOT contractor prequalification. Neither uses OhioBuys bidder registration.
• DAS runs free OhioBuys training and job aids, so you don't need to pay a third-party registration service.
• Official guides don't say whether solicitation documents open without logging in.
